Summer is over

Well, I had another successful summer commercial fishing in Alaska. We had a beautiful summer and I spent a lot of time with friends and family. I got to catch waves right up unto the day I left. I will miss all of my friends and family up there. I will be posting more often now that i am back at school and in front of my keyboard more often.

Heading back out to the blackcod grounds

so our first trip was awesome. we caught nearly 26,000 pounds of cod! it was a typical shakedown trip with an incredible catch. We set our gear as the swells built and by the time we had all of our gear set the sea had come up. everything was soaked the decks where leaking badly and we were getting thrown around by the sea. whilst we where securing the decks and getting the boat ready to ride out the night the captain called to us. the ram for the rudder had broke loose of its mount and was washing back and forth with the swells. we had to act fast to secure the ram and gain control of the rudder. to do this we put the boat in gear to help the rudder track behind the boat after a few attempts we got it secured. the next day the ocean laid down a bit and we hauled back our gear. we really landed on them.

1st trip of the season

I just got back from our first fishing trip of the season. this season is getting off to a really good start. we have a really good crew and our first trip went well. we where faced with some technical difficulties and some foul weather, but we survived the trip and returned to port deck-loaded with fish. We caught nearly double the amount of fish that we usually do and filled our fish hold till it could hold no more. It was an absolutely amazing!

Final Project Planning

So i have been coming up with some ideas for my final project this week. i think that i will be doing a project involving dynamics. i have been working with the snow/hail for a possible short animation. i have also been experimenting with dominoes and trying different dynamics.

Lt. Dan

Quote from Forrest Gump By Lt. Dan:That's what all these cripples down at the VA talk about: Jesus this and Jesus that. They even had a priest come and talk to me. He said God is listening and if I found Jesus, I'd get to walk beside him in the kingdom of Heaven. Did you hear what I said? WALK beside him in the kingdom of Heaven! Well kiss my crippled ass. God is listening? What a crock of shit.
Anyway we have been working with Lt. dan rig. I turned off his tail and find it ironic that Lt.. dan has legs and no arms unlike the movie character from forest gump. I mostly just got his character set worked out today. I got that all worked out and saved it so that i have a good copy to work from incase something irreversible happens. I also worked a bit with animating the Lt. Dan rig but didn't get to far.
maybe next class I can get more animating done.

Working With Rigs!!!

Today in Class we started working with rigs.  This was really fun for me to experiment with the ball rig and try different things. Before we really got started animating with the rigs, we were told to "storyboard" or make an outline of the events in our animation. My storyboard had 12 different actions on it. When I actually started animating it I had to cut it down to about 6. The animation I created with the ball rig is one where the ball (a Female Ball) moves in front of a mirror and through different movements as it inspects itself, after checking it's front and backside it turns and moves away from the mirror. I got this idea because a ball is a sphere it has circular symmetry appearing the same from any angle it is also non gender specific. The ball rig gave us the ability to change the shape and orientation of the ball to bring it to life and give it some specific characteristics. It allows us to give the ball action and to try and give the ball a personality.

Hey Everybody

Hey guys,
So, I've been working with Maya for a couple days now. I am starting to get used to the controls and creating simple animation. I have been mostly focusing working with a bouncing ball and getting proficient at making a ball and making it bounce. I have also been working with different movements other than bouncing. Today we had our pop quiz and we created a ball that starts bouncing using its own power. We also used a ball to model lateral movement with a slight delay before it accelerated across the plane. Both these animations where really fun to create and tweak to get them to look natural. next week we present.. until then have a good weekend.
